  1. Yes! As an additional precaution, I am staying at least six feet away from the TV. (That is to keep the TV safe.)

  3. If anybody needs anything during this crazy time, just ask. Communicate! After all these years I still really enjoy reading DCP. I don't post much anymore, but I always read everything. It's been a wicked few years. but, when we can, The Madison Scouts are coming to town! Guaranteed! Hugs, be safe!

  4. Contracted for my third season of World Class, pretty much everyone I have talked to wishes for the cancellation of the season. I am fine with reevaluating another week or so, but they need to act. Everyone understands the situation, that the season cannot go on under these circumstances. It just is what it is. The Olympics, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS- all have changed their schedules. Any sort of a move to shorten tour will only provide worse show quality, and more importantly, a worse member experience. Build contingency plans for corps' survival, get a refund out to everyone, and extend eligibility another year. This needs to be done as quickly as they can to work out logistics. No matter what they do now, we already know that attendance at DCI events will be down. I'm open for discussion, it's been a while since I've been on here.

  6. And this is why Dan Acheson is DCI Executive Dir and not you or me, and corps representatives voting membership makes the decisions about the season, and not you or me. They've been doing this for decades. Their primary focus is on the marching members and their participant's safety. They'll make the right decision at the right time. That time is not now.

  7. Jim - NONE of us has the definitive answer. The conditions are changing by the hour. What I think will happen is this . . . As more tests are done, the mortality rate will fall to a very low number, and panic should decrease. These full shut-down orders will be eased. A reasonable drug combination will be found in the next 3 weeks that will slow the spread of the virus, and decrease the severity of the effects on persons who get infected. I now believe DCI really has no choice but to cancel the 2020 season. The fear in people will linger on well into the summer. I don’t consider myself an expert, but do admit to being a perfectionist. That is, I not only straighten pictures on walls, but also obsess over details and research things many hours per day, every day of the year. I truly believe our nation will learn from this entire experience and be better prepared for the next crisis. Finally, no one should quickly accept the truth of any one person, particularly an anonymous message board poster!

  8. My wife and I are finding it useful to get outside and walk on a regular basis...helps to clear the mind and stay grounded about the crisis. Additionally, my wife and I are limiting our exposure to the media. We're watching just enough to stay informed. Too much exposure to the media will get to you. Everyone please stay safe and positive!

  10. I followed a link from a post yesterday and watched Cinderella 1965 on Youtube Movies which was great. They are offering many good ones for free. It's nice to get away from all the hand-wringing.

  11. “It’s time because something else might be postponed” ok gotcha - not the strongest argument I’ve ever heard I will flip that around and say “what’s the rush?” let the picture play out another ten days or so then pull the plug if needed

  12. Now that this is the new prediction thread: 2020: no chance 2021: fall auditions will be video only, spring will be the first in-person camps in over a year. Sadly, several Corps will be missing because both organizations and individuals won’t have sufficient finances. On the plus side, props and electronics will be reduced to keep costs down and help more Corps stay in the game. Overall production quality will be down, but shows will have a more old-school vibe, and everyone will be so happy to be at a show again (on the field and in the stands) that we’ll all proclaim it as the best season ever.

  15. Why is there a presumption of "spin"? Why not just presume they're going to tell us the truth about what they see of the season? Why is there this seeming disdain and distrust of the very people who have brought us the activity we all seem to enjoy so much? Isn't that a huge contradiction?

  20. I was thinking about your reply some more, and realized you have good point. What I should have said was that anything less than 2.2 million will be a victory IF this pandemic follows the same course as the 1918 pandemic. My hope is - there are so many variables and unknowns, that I hope this pandemic’s trajectory turns out to be an order of magnitude less.

  21. If there is no season, one would think the show planned and music/drill already written might be stored until next Winter. Why start from scratch and pay more money for another show? Most corps would probably keep what their show would have been a secret.

  22. True but have known enough people with suppressed immunity systems and seeing percentage A is better than percentage B isn’t a comfort. Still a crap shoot and their odds are bad if they become exposed. IOW survival percentages are only important if you are in the survived group. And some people I know were not in that group. To be clear thats why I don’t follow percentages

  25. We have hit the bottom of the barrel in keeping busy, yesterday. We have plastic hangers in a number of colors, so we spent the afternoon color-coding the hangers in our closets. I have blue, my wife now has he clothes hanging on pink and white, our front closet has green, and upstairs we have brown. Misc colors are in the spare bedroom. Pretty sad! 😃

  27. I didn't say "drum corps". I specifically said that DCI has never had to deal with any thing like this. Maybe you can think of something that had this kind of national impact, since DCI was founded. I can't

  32. This was wonderful. I've always watched a lot of Disney but I missed this. I never saw it. I never knew Walter Pidgeon (King) played such a role and Lesley Ann Warren (Cinderella) was so good. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out who she was. She could have been a double for Natalie Wood.

  33. Great.. now I have the “Impossible/It’s Possible” song stuck in my head. But very apt for these uncertain times. Now if I can also get “the prince got Kicked in the...” oops I mean “the prince is giving a ball” out of my head too. Seriously that’s what the pit orchestra brass sang under our breath. 😈

  35. This afternoon Governor Murphy joined New York, Conn. and Ill. and shut down pretty much everything in the state. Murphy said this could be in place for months. Now the FAA stopped all flights into the NYC area airports, due to staffing issues, from Covid. I'm sorry, but to me,this has now reached the point where not cancelling the season makes no sense.

  37. I see your points, and I'm sure you see mine as well. Facts are facts (even today). Regardless of duration of copyright, or the well-known abuses of the system by record labels historically cheating the songwriters, those authors are still entitled to royalties. There seems to be some misguided belief particularly among drum corps folks, that they should be exempt from this legal, and ethical precept. That's why these discussions, on this forum, tend to be futile. Maybe this one will be the exception. As you probably know, HFA (formerly the Harry Fox Agency) can put you in touch with virtually all publishers of music. Also, Concord/Bycicle Music now holds the rights to almost all music connected to major stage productions. And you are correct. Sometimes the publishers don't get back to you. I know. I've being producing audio recordings for 40 years. My recourse in those instances is to call in the legal help. Sometimes that gets results.

  38. If by feds you mean the CDC, no argument there. They really botched the testing part of this. But realize also that we don’t live in a dictatorship. Look to your 50 governors as a starting point. The ones taking no responsibility and wanting to blame everything on the feds are the ones you should be going after. I’m no fan of Cuomo, but he has stepped up to the plate and is acting like a leader should.

  39. i agree. The idea that even a short abbreviated tour at this point seems like a miracle. This is not the movie Outbreak where Dustin Hoffman comes in on a chopper with a virus serum and saves the world. It's time to focus somewhat on 2021 and what damage this has done on corps and probably the effects on society. Even if this slows down in the summer months it could very well pick up again in the winter. And god forbid a new strain. And the world won't just recover in a year. The economic impact will be severe.

  41. Will disagree on one point Fred. Think (aka my guess) as more testing is done more cases will be counted (no surprise there). Lot of people will see big increase in that number and freak regardless of it is to be expected. Been following PA counts by county as a guide. But not really following mortality rate as more concerned of just being exposed and avoid catching it at this point. The rest I can’t control so will wait and see

  44. talked about this on facebook in a topic i won't bring up here. that we don't know what we don't know is the issue. already today customers calling me panicking about being able to pay their mortgage with the PA shutdown ( luckily we have a team fully dedicated to that ready to take calls as of Monday). I didn't just give them the number and wish them luck.....i asked if they were ok, asked about spouses and kids....told them to keep me posted, and if they needed me to help get documents somewhere let me know. i can't solve their major concern, but hey, i'm a friendly voice. hopefully i helped ease their mind a little, and i know it eased my mind a little...our rep sucks in many deserved ways ( bank side far more than mortgage), but i am impressed with how we are stepping up just trying to be there for people

  45. Sure, if you trust that the Chinese government has been completely honest and forthcoming with all of their statistical reporting. And if you do, please let me show you this bridge I have for sale. Let's put it another way: overall global fatality rate for SARS-CoV-2 (all age groups) right now is around 3%. Assume 1% of America gets infected over the next six months. Roughly 350,000,000 people in America x 0.01 infection rate X 0.03 fatality rate = roughly 100,000 deaths. The problem with very large numbers like national populations is that even small percentages add up in a hurry. Anyway, Italy reported 624 deaths TODAY ALONE. The USA will be in that boat in 10-14 days. Back on topic, 0.000056446% is about the same percentage chance I would give for there to be any DCI season at all. Major League Baseball (a much bigger fish than DCI) isn't even considering starting THEIR season before July at this point, and it's extremely possible there will be no baseball season in 2020.
