  1. Luckily, he wasn’t sitting behind me at Zionsville. There are things more important than drum corps, as hard as it may be for some people to believe.

  2. I'd rather the corps shut down rather than bringing a rapist back for the sake of competition.

  3. Really, they needed an upswing in percussion? I kinda thought that was the caption where they were competitive with all the lines that medaled.

  4. A bit of caution on “Dream Team” staffs: assembling a perfect or nearly perfect staff will only work if the leadership is solid and everyone is working towards the same goal. There are so many factors that can be at play. Big names can have big egos that clash. Big names can have the occasional idea that does not work as expected. Over the years there are posts that a big name is going to a corps and all that corps’ problems would be solved, and it hasn’t happened. The focus should be on the right people, who may be big names, but could also include lesser known people and perhaps some new blood being given a chance.

  5. Several reactions to this, including "wut?" and "hahahaha" and "ugh" and "weird flex but okay." I've not ever seen anyone on this board forget the hearts and minds of the members, and I can't imagine it'll start anytime soon. Thankfully with the staff changes that are expected to come, any "battle" that Phantom will be in seemingly got a lot easier

  6. I'm just shocked that Cadet fans are at the center of drama here on DCP. Anyone else shocked?

  7. An earlier post almost prompted me to comment on the attitudes of young people. Based on some who post on here, the ones who go to the moderators when they feel insulted. I did not grow up in the coddled generation. I decided for myself at an early age. My father told me to fight my own battles. I did. I'm wrong about young people today. There is strength. I don't always understand the motivation, but I recognize the outcome. This past year showed that with Phantom. I want the members of Phantom 2019 to have the opportunity to continue in 2020 over and above the changes in staff. I want Phantom to continue the battle. Never forget the hearts and minds of the members who strive every day to represent the corps.

  8. Thanks for your kind words Continental. I guess it’s like being a Cubs fan......but different. It was the support of our friends and families, their belief in us that pushed us into DCI. I may come off like a Pollyanna to some because I try to keep things positive. Just offering the support I received when I marched to the current MMs. I’d be willing to bet that many of us who marched drum corps got our inspiration from those who marched before us. We all need to do a better job of paying that support forward. I’m not naive, change is needed @ Regiment but I think singling out one person for this season’s placement is a bit short sighted...there is plenty of blame to go around. After coming close to ending a 45 year run as DCI finalist, I hope and pray the board and corps director are working on a way to ensure the corps’ success on the field for another 45 years.

  11. Right after the Freelancers performed, I turned to BigW and said, "That's the first show from them I've seen that can beat Star United." And then after Star performed, we both thought Freelancers had done it -- and the judges agreed. Congratulations to the Freelancers!

  14. Those are the rules for the corps. If people know they can post if they wish and I'm pretty sure that no one is going to die. Go back and read through the thread it's all there. BD staff going en masse to Pio. The Senaca Optimists picking up the Crown brass staff, BC entire design team to Les Stentors, Paul McCartney making his debut as a brass arranger for Legends and RUN DMC is going to do prop design for HeatWave. I swear this is all happening.....pinkie swear.

  16. Suta - if rumored changes come to pass, we know what is going to happen. The fair weather fans are going to come out in droves. Suddenly Phantom is going to be relevant for their expectations. Yet through all of this you support the corps. Through everything. You were a participant in the formative years during their initial rise to the top. So were others on here. Yet your learned something else. You are the definition of Phan. Through thick and thin. Always supporting. Always there. Always motivating current members. You represent what Phantom stands for.

  17. I didn't quite know where else to put this... but congratulations to the Freelancers mini-corps on their victory!!! And congrats to the "Las Chicas" color guard ensemble of the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni for their win!!! That group includes my sweetie Brenda, so I am very happy today. She now has won one more gold medal than I ever will.

  30. Of course, you have to have a 007 drill formation during a Bond show. Sabers just hit it and also brushed their shoulders as we here “The name’s Bond. James Bond.” From the pit.

  31. The fact of the matter is, most of the assaults for the women that came forward happened in the 80’s happened on tour, so there’s no way NJ will be able to press criminal charges for those anyway. However, civil complaints are a totally different story. The only issue is that I was told that you only have up until the age of 55 to file a civil complaint. Why they arrived at that age, who knows. 🙄

  36. I don't know, it would be hard to justify giving you a hard time for a homer pick when BD is over half the available choices. As for me, well, if I picked E=MC2 , I would likely be thought of as irrelevant. And it's tempting, I love the show, and Finals night 2013 is certainly a memorable evening of drum corps for Crown fans. But take away the emotional weight behind the championship, I too, have to vote for Felliniesque. Just in awe of that show. I will say this, though, of this list, Babylon evokes a more emotional reaction in me. The ballad and the closer are goose bump city. But Felliniesque's ballad is gut wrenchingly beautiful. And DSU is pure joy Argh, this is too hard. F it Felliniesque

  38. This is just impossible for me. Same as it was for 2nd and 3rd place. Too many fantastic and legendary shows. a) In terms of technical excellence and killer performance levels, it would be Felliniesque by the Blue Devils 2014. I was fascinated by the show, found it very entertaining, and the demand and performance levels are simply through the roof. b) In terms of my personal Favorite, it's a close call, but I choose Metamorph by Blue Devils, 2017. In some ways, their show this year (Ghostlight) was even better designed and just as entertaining, but there was something about Metamorph that grabbed me...like an addictive drug. I could not stop watching that show all summer. Carolina Crown in 2013 (E=mc2) is a close 2nd, and Down Side Up by the Bluecoats 2016 is a really close 3rd. So from an entertainment perspective, this is how I rank them: (and may be subject to change in 10 minutes) Metamorph (Blue Devils 2017) E=mc2 (Carolina Crown 2013) Down Side Up (Bluecoats 2016) Between Angels and Demons (Cadets 2011) - maybe the best traditional drill and music show with no props of this bunch. Ink (Blue Devils 2015) - incredible design, entertaining, great theme, and the ballad and the closer are worth the price of admission Ghostlight (Blue Devils 2019) - amazing design, and I am still watching this thing constantly. So impressive. Felliniesque (Blue Devils 2014) - definitely the most technically excellent show that was also quite entertaining. The most amazing Finals performance ever. Babylon (Santa Clara Vanguard 2018) - SCV was ON FIRE with this show! Love the visual design and how the props were used. The last 2 minutes are super powerful. One of the better endings in DCI History. Through a Glass, Darkly (Blue Devils 2010) - I was one of the few who really liked this show. When I saw them live I thought the mirrors were used so well and did add a cool effect to the visual program in ways I had never seen before. Cabaret Voltaire (Blue Devils 2012) - Definitely respect this show, and the corps was fantastic. Just not my favorite design by BD, but I am sure to others this is a masterpiece.
