  1. I think "the four vocalists who busted their ### and auditioned to get in this corps before this whole thing broke should totally be shown the door because Hop paved the way for singing in drum corps and they need to send a message" is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've read on this forum so far this year. Thanks for coming guys, but the former director who was fired for grossly inappropriate behavior liked singing, so.... I guess if you want to stay, you could always run met for rehearsals!

  3. In a 2016 interview, Dan Richardson responded to a question about his favorite Regiment show by saying "My favorite was New World Symphony in 1989 since it brought out the best in every section..." I am delighted that Phantom Regiment's 2018 program in the year of his death will incorporate Dvorak's classic and pay tribute to my friend and fellow MM from 1957 -1960.

  5. What I don't understand is the way Cadets percussion has been STAGED over the past several years. This is going back to when Jeff was still writing the drill. Beginning in 2014, and just getting worse from there. When you have the drumline they had, WHY would they be staged in the BACK of the field?? This even happened during features. I'm hoping it's better this year. When you have a line being instructed by McNutt or Aungst, they should be prominently featured. Please. And thank you. :)

  6. These changes are nothing compared to Hopkins constant rewrites and additions.

  7. Only days to go for Boston to start ST. Wednesday for percussion and this weekend for everyone else. I would hazard to guess the program announcement will soon follow MM's arrival. They get to hear it first. Very exciting. Can't wait. I think they'll have a smoking horn line.

  8. OK...as much as I am not a fan of art (paintings) I just took the time to read a few reviews about "Nighthawks" the actual painting itself. It seems pretty straight-forward to me. I've never been a big fan of artsy-type stuff...but this does not give me that vibe...seems more of a backdrop to set a mood and tone...I have a feeling I'm going to really like BD's show like I did last year...

  10. Bottom line on Copyrights, is that you can't steal things in Music that arn't your own creations. This guy was the exception depicted here. Although he was 2nd string, he was treble on pitchers, and was known to steal a bass or two.

  11. the problem with the percussion caption was it was sooooooooo deep. With Crown taking that next huge step up, Boston adding themselves in the mix.....man. judging all of that was truly separating fly #### from pepper

  13. I am so, so, happy for Cadets’ MMs that such respected and talented people are onboard and working hard to give them a great season. There is no shortage of challenges, but they are under capable leadership. Regardless of anything, this is likely to be a very memorable edition of The Cadets. Previously alienated alumni and benefactors will be returning. Audiences are going to give them the warmest of welcomes, and these young adults are going to remind us why we love this activity. Let’s get ready for a new era.

  17. Totally. 100% agree. It will be so nice to see the MMs get a chance to truly nail down and execute what the real designers intend.

  18. which was very odd - I don't think the DCI judging community knew what to do or make of Cadets 2017 program, especially percussion wise (which I felt was their best caption last year)

  19. I’m no fan of singers. Simply because the acoustics can never be controlled in different stadiums. It takes hours for bands to setup for venues and that’s something corps don’t have time to do. In addition, the quality of voice, electronics and ensemble are never ever consistent. Frankly I have yet to see the value of narrative or voice in any production on a football field.

  21. Scott Litzenberg, along with a great staff steered that corps to the success it sees today. I was proud to be a soloist in 87 with that hornline. Scott wore many hats that year. Many times found himself driving a bus to the next show. Great man. Im sure will do a great job. Congratulations Scott

  25. We’re down to one corner of his mouth! It’s the one that had the most problematic tooth. He has a “gum flap” in that corner that is perplexing him, but no pain. Buzzed a mouthpiece for a few minutes today, including triple tongued exercises. Says it “feels weird” but no pain and no blood. Move ins are Friday. Just love that the staff has been so awesome. He’s on his way back! Might actually hear a note out of a horn tomorrow!

  27. Have you ever been to the Norman Rockwell Museum ( not far from you ) in Stockbridge Ma. Liahona ? Sometimes when folks arn't into high brow Art, they oftentimes can find Rockwell's Illustrations interesting on trips there that display hundreds of his paintings, illustrations, scribblings, doodlings. etc and what have you.

  29. We were so emotionally spent that there was no way the finals show would ever live up to prelims. Thankfully, the next season finals were held the day after prelims.

  30. All I can say is that I look forward to what Bobby Jones comes up with now that he isn't being forced into GH ideas. Bobby and Hammonds came up with a great show that I had the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Reading Buccaneers.

  31. as long as the arrangements provide new perspectives not previously heard I don't mind...with the emphasis on visual design music is often chopped up such that it loses identifiability ,,,so two or more corps playing the same piece of music might go unnoticed by the non drum corps savvy

  41. If the visual presentation matches the quality of the musical selections they've provided us with, this is going to be a fantastic show. Also, I hope there's no cheesy narration like that trailer has (especially after last year's show).

  42. Yeah, I think narration is more annoying than singing.

  43. I’m with your folks on that one! The Poet and Peasant and Masterpiece Theater were Ken Norman charts. The rest were Tim Salzman charts. We were a brassline in transition. They really shined the next year. An abundance of talent.

  45. He was the Crossmen Corps Director from '86 to '89, and during that time, the Crossmen improved their placements each season. '86........ 21st '87.........16th '88.........14th '89.........13th. From talking to people, they tell me he's organized, smart, solid as a rock character wise, and a nice guy to boot. Sounds to me like the Cadets got themselves a very good hire to come in and right the ship. The fact that he once marched the Cadets himself seems an added bonus as well.

  46. His main point was that we don't often see a clear reflection in a corps' score when they've had a bad run, like in other judged sports (figure skating was an example). The activities are totally different.

  47. A lot of people revere that show for the big ol number it got, but I love that show for being the start of a more audience friendly Blue Devils. Hope this years show is no different.
