  1. It would be a shame if he left BK, I've found his arrangements more entertaining at BK than his time at Cadets

  3. I’d rather they just get rid of the rule. Labor Day comes too soon and summer passes too quickly.🕶️☀️

  4. I appreciate that you've had to reiterate your position here several times but, as you know, Old Pharts forget stuff a lot and easily. "Where are my glasses?" "What time is my appointment?" "What did Spatzzz say 76 posts ago?" You know, everyday stuff like that. Just you wait - you'll get old and forgetful, too, and the youngins will try to put you in a Memory Care facility if you forget your kids' names just one more time. (/sarcasm)

  10. …to look for America (Bluecoats 2013) - This is probably my favorite Bluecoats show and definitely in my top twelve favorite shows of all time. Toy Souldier (Cadets 2010) - Was an awesome show too but it was written so close to The Cavaliers Machine (2006) that it was hard not to compare. I look at all these awesome 5th place shows and think Wow! what were the shows ahead of them?

  11. Since people refuse to actually read what I've written with any semblance of comprehension I'll restate it agin. If someone that is oblivious that breaking ranks is even a thing and attempts to walk through a simple "please wait or walk around" usually works. If they continue it isn't worth getting into a physical altercation over. If someone is being physical and belligerent when walking through and assaulting members then defending oneself and the group is ok. Seeing the reaction by the old pharts brigade I can see exactly how and why the activity sunk into issues with member miss-treatment. The level of faux machoism and fake tough guy attitudes were pervasive back in the day to the detriment of the wellbeing of the members.

  12. nah. He was being stupid. Many people here thought at the time he was lucky to not get a foot to the chops laying there like that. think it was 2008? the samurai year where the cavies were wandering around in block committing seppuku on themselves during retreat.

  18. DCA did this last year as well, but not in prior years. DCI forces Open Class corps to go on first in World Class Prelims, but then lets Prelims scores alone decide the order for World Class Semis. As for whether or not it's fair: DCA Open Class corps who don't want to perform before DCA Class A corps ought to score better in the season, no?

  21. There is a pretty serious media opportunity for someone to monetize this arena. DCI Free Agency News. In professional sports getting the scoop and making it public knowledge is a multi-million dollar industry. (Adam Schefter, Woj, Shams.., ) Granted in our little world the interest is not as great, but it is absolutely not against the rules to have a verified trusted source of something and making it public knowledge before the Organizations want it to be known. It's entertainment, We are all on this forum to discuss and pass the time, If we are dedicating this much time we are all somewhat fanatics of Drum Corps. I find it strange that sharing stories is so taboo. Who are we protecting? A corps is going to fold because we know a week ahead of time what is already being agreed upon privately? Just silly to me that this is where the line is on DCP and others arenas related to the marching arts...

  22. Auditions begin in late November...waiting until Labor Day to make the staff announcements should not impact the decisions of individual members.

  23. Do you have additional things completely unrelated to the topic you’d also like to discuss? Now that you’ve known for a day what the actions of the person shoving their way through the band were, why do you continue to insist on changing the subject?

  27. The Monday after finals in 2016, BAC announced that Gino Cipriani and Colin McNutt would be leaving Cadets and soon after it was announced Crown staff would be leaving and going to BAC. The rule was proposed after these announcements and voted on I am assuming at the winter meeting in 2017. I have no problem with the rule, and it does give corps some time to prepare for staff departures. That being said, the rumors are often out there. For example, In 2016, I began hearing rumblings big things on the horizon at a BAC home show in August, more solid information in Allentown, and all but a solid confirmation in Indy. I do not say this as someone who is well informed. I say it as someone who can say “If I know it, everyone else must too.”

  28. Hey Folks so only a few days before I leave jolly old England fro the DCA Championships. Looking forward to being back amongst the DCA Corps and fans. 2018 was a great year for me bow out of Summer drum corps so I cant wait to see what the Corps have in store. Seems I picked a good year, getting close at the top and regardless of the winners there are some great battles down the order....win win I think. BigW - I will try to catch your solo performance if I can. I have the DCA VIP reception at 5:30 then a break before the hall of fame dinner so lets hope I can catch you play. If not I will try to find you during the evening, I will have my USA cell phone with me so PM me your number and Ill try to call you. Paul Cadence Director

  36. Interesting. I have not watched that show in a long time, but my recollection was that it was more a secular "peace and joy" type celebration of Christmas, vs. a more religious "birth of the savior" celebration. But I grew up Catholic, so obviously it would make a different impression on me. Wonder what those same folks thought of Cadets 2017 (Mass).

  42. Mine? The moment my daughter walked on the field in semifinals, looked up into the stands and recognized that her brother was in the stadium. Connor had never seen her march corps in all of her 4 years ... and he flew from Boston to see her age-out and surprised her that night in the stadium. As you can see, she was quite surprised ... and it really made a great ending to her four year career.

  43. Let's try it this way: He made public what he wanted public. Anyone other than Tommy or the BoD has no reason to know any more than that. In other words, anything other than what he chose to share is his business. It is not the function of any third party to make uneducated guesses, especially ones that could damage the reputation or image of either party involved. I will point out something I pointed out around this time last year when someone came after me on this forum, someone not involved, with no real information on the subject: These are real human beings you are talking about, with real lives. So the same respect you would want shown to you.

  45. I think a rule like this is kind of silly. But DCI and its members are in a way better position than me to decide what’s in their best interests. After observing this thread for a couple of years, it appears as though the rule serves very well some insiders (real or pretend, I wouldn’t know) who want to show off their insider-ness.

  46. I think a big part of the answer is that DCI would have to run the food trucks year round to make the initial investment worthwhile. Maybe there's a business there in food truck rental between September and June, but what about audition camps and spring trainings, and when a corps is going on a single overnight to do a parade and needs two meals not during the tour season. Bill Cook did it with buses, and lots of corps use their stuff out of season, but DCI hasn't been allowed to be in that business until now because the corps have made all of their own arrangements.

  47. Well I’ve gotten laughing (at you) faces for pointing this out but will say it again. With all the craziness going on today people need to be.more aware of what’s going on around them. That’s why DC and NYC have the “if you see something, report it” message signs during the big holidays. Band director was aware and tried to stop this person from going thru because of the safety issue. But some here think he should not have worried because it’s “just band”.
