  1. We don’t want much, a periscope for each performance, still photos and a write up after each! Thanks in advance lol

  3. Why can’t more corps just do fun, yet technically awesome shows? Look at how much fun the Bluecoats kids have and how much fun the audience has watching them. Why not follow their lead? Being dark and angry doesn’t make you more artistically relevant.

  4. I'm an engineer. I've provided expert testimony for a variety of cases including faulty playground equipment, unsafe conditions, like poorly lit walkways, and damaged curb, sidewalk and pavement. Based on this,I was wondering: 1.Are there design standards for a large prop ? For example ,do large props require plans, signed and sealed by a Professional Engineer or Architect. 2.Do ramps have to meet design standards for a maximum slope ? 3.Do props come with instructions from the manufacturer for things like assembly and inspections. And,if they do,who "signs off" that they were assembled properly for each show ? 4.How often are props checked for damage ? 5.A corps selling a prop after the season scares the you know what out of me. If an injury occurs, the opposition is going to go over it with a fine tooth comb, looking for any flaw, including damage or repairs. Even if they are unrelated to the injury, that is a big problem. When I look at some of these large props, all I see is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

  5. Boston’s guard is amazing and so is Bluecoats, Devils, Vanguard, and Cavaliers. Many others are good too, but that group of five are elite.

  6. The Location Positive: Sell out crowd with standing room only tickets being sold and people sitting in the back stands Opportunity: Five person judging panel, field had some giant brown spots, and (I don't believe they can control this, but...) it was quite warm which caused stamina issues for pretty much every group Arsenal (Including gifs that I was thinking of during each show - they did an intentionally creepy circus show) Positive: Lots of growth from last year - appear to be bigger and a more mature sound and visual book Opportunity: I am pretty sure the show is incomplete, that or they need to rethink how they finish the show Phenom (They played Black Hole Sun) Positive: Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden Opportunity: Probably not the organization's goal, but they could drop the woodwinds and be very competitive in Open Class Troopers Positive: Fun show that they sold really well without their normal uniforms Opportunity: Inconsistent performance, some really great parts followed by ones that need some work Vanguard (Me during the sousaphone solo) Positive: Percussion is super tasty, all the brass soloists are amazing Opportunity: The placeholder ending is a total letdown after the first ten minutes of the show Cavaliers (Cavaliers are the train and the bus is your fandom of other corps) Positive: Already my favorite Cavalier show since 2010 Opportunity: Noticeably dirtier than Vanguard but huge potential if they get it cleaned up Academy Positive: Easily the most mature program The Academy has put on the field Opportunity: Selling the show theme, rarely get the bridge theme beyond the half dozen London Bridge quotes

Show date: 7-19-2019 Gates open at 6 PM Show start: 7:30 with the National Anthem Phantom Regiment- 7:42 PM The Cadets- 8:00 PM Blue Stars- 8:18 PM THE CAVALIERS- 8:35 PM INT Carolina Crown- 8:52 PM Bluecoats- 9:39 PM Santa Clara Vanguard- 9:56 PM Blue Devils- 10:13 PM Sorry guys, I am obviously extremely excited to be at this show! I am so excited that I am fairly certain that I am annoying the heck out of my best friend/roommate. A side note, this season marks the 10 year anniversary of my first time seeing The Cavaliers live. Remember when all the corps performed traveled to Houston and performed two days before the Southwestern championships? I bet it was hectic for everyone, but I loved it. Regardless that The Cavaliers marched a show that was not as popular with everyone (I actually like it....), I was thrilled to see them! I know the show is a couple of weeks away, but whatever... I am excited! GO CAVIES!

  12. Weird scores tonight. Bloo only increased by .05, but the gap between them and Boston actually increased by 0.3. Also, congrats Surf on your best opening score in a solid decade!

  17. BOX5 will be live streaming championships this year. We are very aware that we haven't made any public announcements. We are working on posting something in the next day or so. We have been trying to get the pricing right. Many of you wanted a combination price instead of our per day price. So we had to work that out and I think we have at this point. We have also been working on a MUCH, MUCH bigger announcement however. With that said, pricing for championships will be as follows: LIVESTREAM PRICING PRELIMS - $39 Includes all prelims corps, Alumni Spectacular and Mini Corps. FINALS - $39 Includes all finals corps DCA PRO SUBSCRIPTION - $64 Includes all of Prelims, Alumni Spectacular, Mini-Corps, Finals and any other DCA event we live stream. We are working on securing a better connection at Peckville, so that show is still up in the air. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT BOX5 will be releasing a BluRay of the 2019 DCA Championship Finals. The price is still TBD, all corps performing will be included. The BluRay will include edits to comply with licensing requests and copyright laws. We don't know what those edits are and won't have a good handle on that until we begin to hear back from copyright holders. We will only release 300 discs, once they are gone, they are gone. The discs will go on sale some time in December and available after the 1st of the year. We are also considering a release of our 4K content of finals. Again, this is very preliminary and will need some feedback from YOU on how we could do that. We are considering a limited run of USB Drives, Download or BluRay Data Disc of the 4K content. UltraHD disc pressing is just not in our wheelhouse or abilities to create the content. As best we can tell, it will be the first 4K product delivered to the marching arts. There you go, a little insight on what is happening. Tim

  18. Music City was a fun show, the mouse characters...very humorous. Engaging music. Lighthearted. No one is murdered in the show. Cadets were impressive tonight, I saw the premier and didn't think I liked the show, changed my mind tonight. My favorite part was the color guard's water effect under the bridge during "Bridge over Troubled Water". Bluecoats were just...wow. Sight and Sound spectacular. My only minor complaint about the show was very little suspense before scores were announced, no real chance of an upset in placement between them.

  19. Another Beanpot is over. Great night to be outside and a great night of drum corps. Spartans was the first competing corps. Their show is amazing and they are focused. They owned the audience with their ballad. 7th Regiment: show had more of a punch and they were far more confident this evening. They have some excellent soloists. Music City: once again a crowd pleaser. I thought Saturday’s show had more impact, but tonight had fewer noticeable mistakes. One 5bing I enjoy about watching Music City is that they enjoy what they are doing. Cadets: huge difference between Saturday and today. The Queen’s dress is no longer torn off. There were moments of great power in the brass and it kept people’s interest. I was sitting close enough to the field to see that the kids were picking up on the audiences approval. The percussion was on fire this evening. Bloo: no one was surprised with the fact they reached the 80-plus mark. A few new additions to the show or if they were not additions, a few small aspects seemed more noticeable. “I Want You/She’s so Heavy” seemed more in control tonight which added to its nuance.

  20. I have no association with the corps, I just went to their 2019 thread to wish them well on their season debut tonight, only to find that there wasn't one yet. I'd love to see Surf work their way back into Semis this year after four years out! Not only will the lack of Oregon Crusaders/BDB/SCVC help their chances, but browsing their website, it looks like they've got the staff in place to do so! Talk about some big names. Alan Spaeth hasn't forayed into the drum corps world much, but he is one of the most talented designers on the high school marching band side of things, and has been for two decades now. Mitch Rogers is writing their drill, and the Alan Spaeth/Mitch Rodgers duo is what catapulted Flower Mound to the top of the BOA world. Add in music arranger Don Hill of LD Bell/Broken Arrow/Phantom Regiment fame, and that's a great design staff line up. Looks like most of the instructional staff has been in place for the last few years, and that's always a good sign. Drum corps is healthier when the corps at the bottom are thriving as well. Best of luck on your premier tonight, Surf, and have a great season!

  22. The Bluuucoats Well they had a wail if a chore following BAC but they brought it and oh it started raining pretty good they stopped but then setup and finished it out and it’s a drum corps moment for sure . Really like this one as well and will be a fav in 2019. See westcoast this is what entertaining program choices look and sound like BAC and Bluecoats

  34. Got to the show late, unfortunately, and missed Spartans, who were excellent in Lawrence. Everyone else gave rousing performances. Have not been a big Bluecoats fan in the past, but that changed last night. Looked and sounded wonderful, and 100% entertainment. Still some visual cleaning necessary, but watch out. Love the rhythm that underlies and propels the show forward. Man, the battery really flies around the field. Cadets getting better. Still need many fixes. Enjoyed both Music City and 7th Regiment much more than in Lawrence. All in all, a very enjoyable show. Congrats to St. Mary’s Cardinals Alumni once again. They always produce a well run show. By the way, even with Boston missing, the stands were packed.

  37. BAC. Well how can I summarize incredible tonight. Obvious theme carried out to the nines. Guard spot on hornline powerful and has key moments and drumline cranking away. Like their show last season Going to be a fav of mine

  38. Music City. Theme of Mice and music very obvious especially the mice part. Lots of mice squeaking effects. Strong overall. program needs a few more dynamic highs and lows and smoother transitions and boom this show will pop quite nicely . Nice job MC

  43. It's positive that Cadets haven't really lost any ground against Bluecoats and Boston overall, since the season started. Time will tell if they can chip away at those 5 points against Bluecoats. It's heartening that recent in-person reviews seem pretty positive. It seems that the show comes across better live than on video. I've caught some videos online and there's certainly marked improvement, and yet so much to do.

  44. I got to aee them live that year, and it was something of a religious experience speaking personally. The original ending was in too. Bluecoats were at the show, but the best crowd reaction of the night was the ###### into the gun shot. The crowd went INSANE! I understand why they changed it though, and fully support it to this day. Just can't help imagining what if they hadn't.
