  1. Headed to see the Cadets in a few hours. My wife and I getting spoiled having them so close for spring training! Excited to see the progress since this past weekend.

  2. That video was the most baffling and cringeworthy thing I’ve seen in a while...Not really looking forward to that being blasted through the speakers

  3. Progress? What PROGRESS? Haven’t you heard, they are saddled with a 9th place show, so they have probably already given up. Because, you know, The Cadets never work hard at anything. 😇

  5. now we know why DCI took the judges off the field: sling shots. They give "judge blockers" a whole new meaning.* *Although I won't be surprised come Indy that Keith and Leon will have a over-life size slingshot catapult someone from the field to the box... GE and everything.

  6. Welcome to the offseason everyone - boy that season went FAST!! Cadets came in 9th place...before anyone played one note in competition, and based only on a show announcement, that is.

  11. Oh sure, now that auditions and winter camps are over, some p.r. person (not the PR in Rockford) decides that their airline will make nice and look like a good corporate citizen. And because 99 per cent of Texas teenagers are band kids and 88 per cent of them flee that hot State in the summer to march DCI elsewhere (the other 12 percent being Crossmen, Guardians, Genesis and Revolutionaries,) that airline has to be called American based at D-FW. But it might still be helpful for auditionees and winter campers for the 2020 DCI season. Perhaps those that are really Friends of DCI, the front office staff in Indy after they finish unpacking their boxes at the new airplane hangar they are calling HQ, and those DCPers who believe they have fiscal contacts and executive pull might persuade the other US Airlines and Air Nippon to follow this same generous policy for even tuba players as reported today on Yahoo News. "American Airlines has eliminated the extra fees for common sporting equipment and musical instruments, giving bicycle riders and cello players the standard bag fees – $30 on domestic flights – instead of the oversize fee of $150. {edit note: $120 savings per tuba player; average tuba line of minimum 12, is almost $1500.00 in savings. Now 6 or 7 winter camps per corps...} American isn’t the first airline to depart from its previous stance charging extra for these bags. In 2017, Alaska Air changed its policies, and began charging $30 for sports equipment like windsurf boards and bicycles. A few items will still require the full $150 oversize fee. Antlers, hang gliders, scuba tanks, and windsurfing items are not exempt from the new policy. Of the other airlines in the big four, Southwest has the most moderate overweight policy, charging a $75 fee for baggage that is outside of normal dimensions. United subjects sporting equipment that is oversized to its fees, except for surfboards that are going to and from California directly. Standard oversize rules apply for Delta. The decision could provide American with an edge over its competitors, albeit in a niche fashion. For those who do fly with sports equipment like a bicycle, traveling has become an elaborate game of figuring out how to game the system. For bicycles, for example, a small industry of special bicycle bags that manage to come in close to the standard 62-inch total-dimension maximum has popped up to help people fly with a bicycle as regular luggage. At $150 each way, a bag costing around $400 pays for itself in just a few trips. As of now, however, American Airlines is in the minority. In general, it remains inconvenient to fly with weird-sized baggage."

  12. people threatened to leave when the third valve was added. Then Bb brass. oh and amps. then electronics. yet since 11, attendance has been on an upward trend. Funny how that works.

  15. I have no idea...nor does anyone else. Many variables that will help determine placements are unknown at this point. Thread would make more sense if it was titled "tell us what you want to happen this season."

  19. Reflecting back on 2015...you know, Cadets had a show that could have won, but anyway..... hmmm everyone who tried to escape and crawl out from underneath that red screen thing got pulled back in. No escape. Kinda validates that Dante thing - abandon all hope etc.

  21. No question DCA is at a weakened position right now. I can’t possibly know all recent developments that helped to bring DCA and its corps to this condition but do want to mention one lost opportunity that has troubled me for years. This is a failure to fully embrace THIS platform. The willingness of John Donovan and Drum Corps Planet to provide DCA and its members certain abilities no All-Age body could ever produce and maintain on its own, was never adequately taken to full advantage. To me, a factor worth considering.

  23. I couldn't agree more Rocket...If this wasn't a team building exercise and is part of the show...well I hope the show is far more compelling than this "Cute" video. As much as some tire of hearing some of us complain about shows present and past...We also tire of hearing see the show first when the track record is so miserable. The only thing worse is when those same people imply we're talking about the kids.

  27. This is their 'attempt' at 'playing the game'. Unfortunately, prior attempts at doing so resulted in them not know what the 'game' was. We shall see!

  44. That's what I was hoping it would be. But do we really know? Prior reps have sounded powerful when announced only to fall flat on the field. Again, NOT a member issue. I will be at the theatre on the 20th. Given that at least four of the corps there have gone 'all in' (Blue Stars not as much IMO, but far more than Regiment), if the staff puts out another turkey in some attempt to hold onto their 'identity', as much as I hate saying it, the season could be a long one, ending on August 9th.

  45. Hopefully one day there will be a Madison thread that will be more positive. I do understand everyones concern, but I feel by some of the posts that some people don't even want them to be successful.
