  1. Have not been able to get the Cadets music out of my head since I left them last night! Music is really growing on me now that the visual aspect is being added. The staging of this show is on a different level than recent years...in a good way. Visually, this is some of the coolest stuff I have seen the Cadets do in years. Trying to keep realistic expectations about how they will place this season; however, when I watch this edition of the Cadets (which has been a lot in the past 2 weeks), I actually think they may have some upward mobility when it comes to placement this season. Either way, this season will be a breath of fresh air for the Cadets and their fans.

  2. Not able to get up higher to see the drill yet due to the facility they are at. However, a lot of visual interest even at field level.

  3. What I’ve seen so far, which admittedly isn’t much, is that they’ve taken a more similar approach to vanguard last year. sections of traditional drill with some cadet moments in between the corps interacting with very large props with some staging on or around them field coverage I’ve seen so far is expansive - for example the opener ends with a double company front between the 15s or so the size of the props lend to creating much bigger pictures and they are being interacted with throughout vs just sitting there much of the show like the ones from last year I only saw them briefly the other day and the brass were in pods working on body movement that sort of scattered into a big sudden wedge for a brass hit listening to the portions of music in be heard so far I would expect a good deal of traditional fast paced drill at the end of the opener and during the closer

  5. As long as they continue to be the destination of choice for top vet talent, they will absolutely continue their dominance for years to come.

  6. So the gap is closing. Ok, some great points there that I never even realized. Still, until I see otherwise I’m hardwired to believe that BD will kick a** and have no mercy on the field the year after they place 2nd. Another significant stat is that BD goes undefeated in years after they lose since 2009.

  9. That was my first year to be involved in DCI, only as a parent of a member of another corps, I fell in love with that show, finals week.

  10. A sneak peak of this season's update. No big changes this year but we worked on some of the most requested updates: improved rankings page and performance times.

  11. I cant recall how many times I've read or heard a design team talk about their show and the themes and wouldn't have had a clue about them if I hadn't been told. SCV's show last year is a great example. I had no clue there was an actual theme to the show. Even when I was told about it I kind of scratched my head. How about Cadet's show last year? While it was put together in a short period of time, but it did have a design. Those themes weren't done in the way GH did it. I thought the themes were subtle, but existent. A theme can be exhausted in writing, but that doesn't mean it will be exhausted on the field. It's just an outline that gets changed a LOT through time. With an entire season to build a show, I expect this one to be put together far better than last year's. If they could do what they do for last year's show in the brief time that they had, I'm very excited to see what they can do. Add on the fact that some say the talent is better and I cannot wait to see the product on the field. This year's statement is now moving into a new era for The Cadets and I couldn't be more excited.

  13. So the other day, I heard Bluecoats mentioned as a sponsor on a local NPR station, including a blurb about their August show in Akron. The station, WKSU out of Kent State U., simulcasts on a number of frequencies in different locations, reaching something like a quarter of Ohio's counties.

  18. My head tells me BD. Just because SCV won last year doesn't mean they are a dominant force YET. Besides it's been since 05/06 that BD has gone 2 years without a title. There has been nothing to convince me otherwise and I predicted SCV would be the 2018 champion at the end of the 2016 season because that's the way it's been since 2008 and it was finally SCVs turn to win. If things continue down this road SCV will stay in it for a few years as Crown fades and in a few years Boston will get their turn to win. My heart tells me SCV or Bluecoats. SCV has the power and motivation on their side with a fantastic show last year that most DCI fans really enjoyed. Bluecoats are a very popular, innovative and in demand corps that most young people can really get behind and be passionate about.

  21. Perhaps a bit biased here since I've been a Blue Stars fan for decades... but this show concept sounds really cool, in the tradition of many very interesting Blue Stars programs.

  24. I don't think Bluecoats winning would be a shocker and Vanguard repeating would surprise no one. Bostons whole staff has and knows how to win Championships. Crown was so close in every caption ( top 3 in Brass and drums) except visual. You know you're going to correct that this year.

  25. BD is in first place right now. That’s the traditional slotting that starts every season. So, would-be 2019 champions other than BD, get it going! Also, sorry about this BAC. But you have no chance. Bruckner’s Law Of competitive inertia says so.

  26. Bluecoats, Santa Clara, Boston, Crown are equal to Blue Devils. They are no longer "The Field" The question is who out of this group will finish first last. Blue Devils are always good but they haven't won Guard or Percussion since 2015, haven't won Brass since 2014 and got shut out of all Captions last year. Devils will be up there just not a strong favorite. But who knows, each year is different.

  29. I'm all for history, statistics, trends and the general consensus that BD is/was/has been the cream de la cream for a zillion years, but as the late, great George Tuthill used to say (paraphrased for effect), "History, Statistics and Trends are like bikinis - they show a lot, but they don't show everything".

  31. The addition of YouTube links above are great. Thanks Liahona for continuing to provide this information in a single location. My playlist is up to date on YouTube to include all announced shows from DCI "World Class", "Open Class" and DCA shows. I will keep watching for new information and will update the Playlist accordingly. You can find it on YouTube by just looking up Drum Corps 2019.

  32. The "Avalanche" piece harkens back to Blue Knights in 2009 with their "Shiver" show. Come to think of it, the announcement seems to me like a cross between that show and the Cavaliers' mountain-climbing escapade from the same year. Love the music selections and I'm anxious to see what cleverness the BStars have cooked up for this summer...

  33. Here is another one, can SCV medal this year? Not only has BD went unbeaten in years following a silver medal, but the corps to beat BD since 2008, Phantom, Cadets, Crown, and Coats didn't even medal in the following season. I hope SCV medals. But BD has proven time after time that it's one thing to get to the top of the mountain, it's a whole different story to stay there. DO IT UP DEVILS!

  34. Oh that's good. 🙂 Hey thanks, now that's two shows this year whose theme I "get". The only thing better would be BC's show called Goliath: The Conquest. (or maybe that's the hidden meaning?)

  44. It's a classic to me. Watch it every Christmas. Its a very underrated show imo. I know it's not what people wanted, especially coming off the previous year, but I'll take that rather than the Championship 2: Electric Boogaloo thats been common lately. It's still better than what won that year...

  45. That show was killed by those "mid season" additions - Man, if they would have restaged that ballad front and center and toned down a couple things it could have become a classic Also bells went on for like 15 minutes - there was that other slight design flaw 😞
